Why Would I see an Orthopedic Doctor?

If you’re an avid skier and your knee hurts, you may benefit from seeing an orthopedic doctor.

Do you have pain, stiffness, or discomfort that are making it difficult to perform everyday activities (like walking up stairs)? Are you experiencing chronic pain (pain lasting longer than 12 weeks)? Do you notice decreases in your range of motion? Do you feel unstable while walking or standing? Have you had a soft tissue injury, and it’s not improving after 48 hours?

Then we recommend making an appointment to be evaluated by our orthopedic team. Seeking care earlier, when the pain starts, rather than later will often give you more treatment options. Delaying care often causes the injury to worsen, requiring more complex treatments.

If you’re an avid skier and your knee hurts, you may benefit from seeing an orthopedic doctor.  The same applies if your job requires a lot of physical activity and your shoulder always bothers you. Or, if you love to garden, but find it is too painful to kneel or bend to weed.

People see orthopedic doctors to get advanced treatment for these problems:

  • arthritis
  • broken bones
  • torn ligaments & muscles
  • muscle strains & sprains
  • work injuries
  • bone tumors
  • age-related conditions like osteoporosis

During your appointment with an orthopedic surgeon, your doctor will talk with you about your goals and review your medical history. Our team is committed both to listening and offering personalized medical information to serve you best, decrease your pain, and get you back to the activities you love. Your doctor may also order X-rays, blood tests, or other tests.

If you think you could benefit from seeing an orthopedic specialist, make an appointment online.
